After Glasstec 2010, summing up a difficult but promising year

The past year has been a demanding one, in the aftermath of an across-the-board and in many ways devastating downturn, but with many glimmers of hope. Since the beginning of the year there have been some real opportunities to start moving on again, but this was not always possible. Companies need to be committed: only structurally sound companies that have always focused on R&D managed to exploit the openings that international markets nonetheless offered the most enterprising businessmen.

Glasstec was a good example. The German exhibition was a very important snapshot of how glass companies are faring, benefiting those that have defended their positioning or even improved it.

Such as the Fenzi Group, which was, very happy with the results achieved at Düsseldorf. At the exhibition with its own stand and with the other members of the Glass Alliance network, the company from Tribiano confirmed that many people visited the stand and many important contacts were made. “We maintained and strengthened our leading positions in the international marketplace – said CEO Alessandro Fenzi – especially because we have always focused on upgrading our quality. This is what makes us different and appreciated everywhere. However these results called for major efforts as well as lots of courage and determination.”  The first demonstration of this unfailing trust in the company’s ability to innovate and “genetic”  tendency to see beyond these recessionary times, are Fenzi’s brilliant results in China: the  production hub known as Fenzi Paints and Sealants Co. has stepped up its production of Duralux mirror paints again and this has been accompanied by sharply rising demand for the Tempver enamels that have just entered into production. The company’s investments and new projects do not end here: our ‘newsflash’ column reports on a new production that will begin at a facility near Shanghai. It seems easy to say that China is the safe-conduct for western companies that are floundering on local markets: this was not the case 30 years ago when Fenzi began its adventure in what was then a distant land, but even only a year ago, when global financial difficulties were making everybody extremely cautious about new investments.

There’s more good news from Russia as well. The new OOO Fenzi and OOO AluPro facility in Lipetsk, just outside Moscow, started producing Thiover polysulphide sealants and AluPro aluminum profiles this year: but the story doesn’t end here either with the significant production developments that we talked about in this issue of Together Online. Europe is also doing its share: after new investments and setting up in Spain, as well as at Rolltech in Denmark and at AluPro in Italy, production capacity has been expanded to allow the most popular and innovative products to achieve the market results within their reach.

Which are the leading products?

Thiover, the best-selling sealant worldwide is solvent-free, has no other harmful substances, and features excellent mechanical properties and very low water and gas permeability.

Duralux Solar Coatings, the new range of paints for solar mirrors with such high resistance levels that new standards are now being prepared for the tests.

Chromatech, a range of metal profiles by Rolltech: the top-selling products are the Ultra profile made in stainless steel and polycarbonate and the Plus stainless steel profile, whose exclusive geometric structure combines very low thermal transmittance with exceptional stability, are selling so well that output will need to be increased.

Tempver ceramic paints, which are now eco-compatible and heavy metal free, ideal for buildings, furniture and electrical appliances.

Aquaglass, water-based one-component paints from the Decover range, ideal for office, home, bathroom and kitchen furniture.
