Sealants

Insulating Glass Units are composed of two or more glass panes separated by a spacer and sealed to form a hermetically sealed unit, improving thermal performance, reducing energy consumption, and enhancing sound insulation. Key components include glass panes, spacers (Rigid or Flexible), sealants (Primary and Secondary), and gas fills like argon or krypton, which provide better thermal insulation than air.

Sealants in IGUs play a critical role in maintaining the unit's integrity and performance by creating an airtight and watertight seal around the perimeter, preventing moisture ingress and gas leakage.

Typically, a dual-seal system is employed, where the primary sealant, often polyisobutylene (PIB), ensures perfect adhesion and acts as an effective barrier against moisture ingress and gas escape from the IGU. While, the secondary sealant, such as Polysulfide, Silicon or polyurethane, offers structural strength to the IGU.

These sealants ensure the longevity and effectiveness of the IGU, significantly reducing heat transfer and noise from the outdoor environment
