Exactly what is insulating glass? What are the significant, essential qualities that make it such? What are its crucial components? How can its performance be optimized? What are its leading uses? And what precautions should be taken during installation? These are just a few of the countless questions that are typically asked by those who are faced with the need to improve the thermal and acoustic insulation of a home, workplace or gathering place, whether they are designers, architects, processors, installers, or even end users. And they may not necessarily be novices in the field, because rapid changes in technology and materials occur, so quickly in fact, that on-going training is a necessity. In other words, the right answers, always in step with the times.

This is precisely the reasoning behind Fenzi North America’s decision to design and create a course for anyone who wants to learn how to make an educated choice about the components of an IG unit, understand all its secrets, the ins-and-outs of its performance and, if possible, take advantage of the corresponding educational credits. The course entitled “Selecting Insulating Glass Sealants for Durability and Energy Efficiency” has been approved by the Architects Institute of America (AIA) and certified by AEC Daily’s On-line Learning Center, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) training institution responsible for promoting the professional development of the construction industry and LEED professionals through high-quality continuing education programs, which today also include Fenzi’s course, available from the AEC Daily’s Online Learning Center (OLC) website.

It is extremely simple to gain access to the online course: all you need to do is visit www.aecdaily.com/sponsor/fenzi and select Fenzi’s course in the Education Tab.
Alternatively, you can visit Fenzi’s home page at www.fenzigroup.com or Fenzi North America website http://www.fenzi-na.com/fenzi_facts.php. The program is extremely user-friendly and in case of need you can contact an expert for guidance. To gain access to the course you need to register and enter an Exam Password for the online exam. To receive the course completion certification follow the instructions at the end of the program.
The course provides an overview of the characteristics insulating glass (IG) sealants must offer to ensure long-term thermal performance, structural durability and longevity of insulating glass units.
Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • - discuss IG systems, in terms of energy conservation, thermal performance of each individual system, and the thermal comfort provided for the building occupants, without sacrificing natural light and a view of the outside;

  • - identify the components of an IG unit and analyze how they contribute to the overall functioning of the system, both in terms of energy efficiency and installation safety;

  • - identify and compare the various kinds of sealants and note the main differences between primary and secondary seals;

  • - evaluate the mechanical properties and durability of a sealant and choose the right product for a specific application in a way that ensures proper thermal performance of the system over time.
